Good design changes from the first iteration. You may want to consider a slightly raised intake lip in front of your DF units that blends into the leading edge of the wing. This might let air flow over the ducted fan "holes" and negate the need for heavy, complicated door covers.

From all of the contest parameters I have seen it sounds like obstacle avoidance may be the most difficult to achieve. Looking forward to more from this group.

Admiring the persistence you put into your site and in depth information you provide. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

Hi stroup, thanks for the comments!

We are using APC props for our forward flight motor. As for the lift fans, we've actually just finished a redesign and we've significantly reduced the size and thrust requirements for this system. We'll update the website with this new resizing soon!

and your verticals "Look" too small.... and thinner sections would prolly be better too... this is a low Rn operating aircraft... airfoils that are fatties are not the hot ticket..... Michael Selig has developed a veritable cornucopia of Low Rn sections... see

but you prolly knew this already!! ;)

in the size range you are working... I have had better performance with APC props...
And if you need more blades for the restricted diameter.... they make 3 blades and you can always stack two 2 bladed props one in front of the other....
